New Mare "Keira" Joins Our Riding Centre

Missing our wonder girl worker, Keira, we've decided to name our new
rather 'sporty' bay mare after her. Keira (the mare) is fast becoming
fit, and has proved to have the stamina required for fast mountain
work! Pretty, with blonde streaks in her mane, she is learning fast
and looking gooooood...

We would like you to meet Aragon. He is the latest addition of our yard of horses in Las Alpujarras. He is a handsome 15'1 young PRE gelding, very lively but he is coming on a treat... Some of his new pictures are below. What do you all think of him?

New Andalucian gelding joins our riding centre in Spain

First photos of new Andalucian gelding, Terrance. He's been with us for 5 weeks, and coming with a history of naughtiness, we have been very slow, firm and patient, and he's now leading rides!

Terrance is a beautiful dapple grey PRE who loves attention. Nearly 8 years old, 15'1hh, He is responsive and sweet natured with loads of character. See some of his latest pics below.

My Time Horse Riding In Spain

Have been staying at Caballo Blanco horse riding centre for a month now, the weather is beautiful and the views are lush. Have nearly forgotten that this hasn't always been my life and that soon am going to leave. Caballo Blanco is a horse trekking center in the Alpujarras mountains in the south of Spain. Have been woofing here, feeding and looking after the horses and doing lots of riding around the mountains. Keep changing my mind about which horse i like to ride the best, but has been great to have the opportunity to ride lots of different ones.

I will definitely remember setting out on the two hour ride on my own tired and grumpy and coming back refreshed and happy. I really enjoyed doing this on Domingo a beautifull flea bitten grey andalucian horse and on another occasion on Ossian a 16.2hh? five year old gelding who is great fun. The views from the top of a mountain are incredible looking down at the town of Orgiva in the valley, the med in the distance and all the mountains all around. Cantering along the track way up a mountain feels great!

Domingo likes to do dressage while you are trying to adjust the stirrups! Carries himself like in the classic andalucian way and is lovely to ride, makes anyone who sits on him look good! When i first got here and he wasn't going out on rides he was very speedy liked to jog and dance and canter on the spot. Now with doing more work he is a real pleasure.

Have had the opportunity to go on a few day rides which have been great going really far around the mountains through the hippy village Beneficio (beautifull lush green in the morning sun with the river cutting through the middle) around the town and past a huge reservoir.

Will be very sad to leave, but looking forward to coming back already.

Andalucian Horse Riding Centre

I came to spend a month at the Spanish Riding Stables, Caballo Blanco to try something completely different. I had never really ridden or had anything to do with horses before, but was attracted by the idea of coming to spend some time living in the mountains in such a beautiful part of the world.

Since I have been here I have been really enjoying getting to know the Andalucian horses, Ive been working with horses, learning how to look after them and helping out with the day to day running of the farm. I love walking, and have been out exploring the beautiful countryside surrounding the farm.

On days off I have tried to go a bit further afield. Caballo Blanco in Las Alpujarras is set in a walkers and riders paradise and it is easy to get up high into the Sierra Nevada. This week I spent 3 days trekking and walking in the snow, staying in one of the refugios, tucked high into the mountains and even climbing the magnificant Mulhacen, mainl and Spain's tallest mountain.

I am sad to say that at the end of this week my time riding horses in Spain is up and I will be moving on, but I will take with me lots of memories and I know that this is somewhere I will definately come back to!

New Andalucian Mare

Another addition to our Spanish Riding stables: what a lovely little horse! I couldnt resist buying this sweet natured Andalucian 8 year old. We hope to have her schooled and ready to ride by Spring. Yet to be named, this sturdy lady has settled amazingly well on her first day. I hope to include her in our two and three day rides in April. No doubt our Working Holiday helpers will enjoy getting her fit, once she has undergone some gentle schooling.

My first trip to Spain and Las Alpujarras

Well then, I am here for the last two weeks looking forward for more times ahead. The Caballo Blanco farm is located on this amazing hill in the Sierra Nevada range, overlooking a beautiful valley with towns, rivers and even a lake! The stables and horses are surrounded by olive and almond orchards and snowy peaks are hanging above.

Originally I come from another spot around the mediterranean, the Menashe hills, Israel, where I complete my graduate studies in agriculture and raise arabian horses. But to this place I came for the famous Andalucian horses and scenaries. And it hasnt failed yet to impress me!

But yesterday was the height of my stay so far! I had a day long ride to the lake below. I rode down narow mountain tracks, finally reaching a river with a hippie village, Beneficio. Riding down the river past the outskirts of a bigger village, Orgiva and continuing down through the olives until reaching a much bigger river. Following the river we approached the lake where we sat and had our picnic lunch. Then with the sun starting to go down towards the mountains, we headed back home through different rivers, different towns and different hills.

Nothing like getting back to this nice cup of tea and a cozy kitchen after such a day. Amazing!

My first ride out in the Alpujarras

After working in a stables in Crete doing the same thing as Sarah is here, i came to spain for a busmans holiday, to ride the beautifull andalucian horses and see some amazing views! Sarah and ali have made me feel part of the family within days, i feel like ive known them for years and wow what a view from the loo!!

well, my first ride out!!what fantastic views!! a lovely ride up across the mountains, still a little snow on the top, an amazing fast canter with Ann Marie and sarah, enough to blow the cobwebs away! and then an exciting trek back down the mountain, Ciel was in the best of form today! good chap! the views are really beautifull, something you would never get tired of looking at each day, looking forward to some more rides like this please!!
